Reading Mike Gayle

I’ve been reading Mike Gayle’s books recently. In fact I’m planning to read all of his books. So far I’ve completed 3 books in less than a week. That’s very impressive for a guy like me, who didn’t like to read stories, really!

Finally!! I have found a genre of fiction that I love to read. Sounds gayish, but yea, I think I’m starting to like Male Chick Lits like these.

On many occasions some of my guy friends around me thought I was reading some ‘gay’ book thanks to the name of the author being spelt nearly that way. My fingers happened to cover the ‘le’ of ‘Gayle’ very often.

His writing style usually sounds like funny commentary made by someone very observant and down-to-earth. It’s all very easy to understand and I have been able to connect with the characters well.

Sometimes I even start to form my own commentaries in my head, as if I’m writing a book about myself. Here goes…

Thanks to reading too much of Mike Gayle’s stories, Desmond’s been talking to himself in his head nearly all the time in English. It’s like some typewriter built-in in his brain, carefully jotting down every single bizarre thoughts and actions from within. This is driving him insane because it’s just… insane!

Writing in his blog about him writing in his head about himself is even more insane!

As his fingers dance and skips on the various keys of his nearly 5 year old dark blue keyboard at this moment, he thinks it’s about time he stops before this planned-to-be-less-than-500-words-post turns into a 5 finger thick novel about himself sharing with his readers his experiences of forming never-ending mental commentaries.

But he still continues typing like that in third person perspective and somewhere in his heart tells him this behaviour might make him suitable for an appointment or a week long stay at the Institute of Mental Health Hospital which is significantly nearer to his home than his army camp. Hmm.. not a bad idea.

Wait, this has to stop.

Something like that. -_-

I doubt this is going to stop anytime soon. But I think this is not a bad thing eh? Haha.

Here’s some movies I’ve watched!

Let The Right One In

let the right one in

I usually avoid watching horror movies because I’m scared of being scared (yes I admit I get frightened by sudden loud sounds and shocks very easily), but since this movie is said to be the ‘Anti-Twilight of 2008′ by one of the reviews at Rotten Tomatoes and has gathered 97% freshness positive rating, I decided to give this vampire horror drama movie a shot.

And yes, this movie is bloodily and scary sometimes, but most of the time it’s quite the opposite. Instead of scaring viewers to death all the time, the plot revolves around the unusual relationship between Oskar and Eli (who is a vampire), and slowly reveals how things happen and why.

The storytelling is not so straight-forward so viewers have to guess what’s going on and discover if they are right in the end. That made me and my friend constantly looking at each others’ question marks above our heads.

All in all, it’s quite a fine movie with an open ending that suggests there’s more to come.

Marley & Me

Marley & Me

Some of my friends warned that I will need cry on my friend’s shoulder (or the other way round) when the movie ends because it has a sad ending.

It doesn’t take a genius to guess what the ending will be.

And since I already guessed the ending correctly in the first place, it was important to find out what the characters in the story went through together to make the ticket worthwhile and ending worth crying for.

I didn’t cry in the end. Haha.

It’s a rather heartwarming and sometimes funny story about a dog named Marley and his owners. Makes me want to read the book though.

Not bad!

The Wedding Game

I can’t believe I agreed to watch this movie. It’s so horrible!!!!!

It’s just a 2 hour long footage of celebrities playing with each other and enjoying themselves. The story is crap, the humour is crap and the acting is… sigh.

It looks like a really bad excuse to make money, seriously.
