Gifts
October 5th, 2008Do you enjoy giving? Today I’m going to talk about Gifts.
Heh.
I know that the Christmas holiday gift-exchanging season is still quite far from now, but someone’s birthday is coming really soon. Who ah?

Miss Tan and I share a common interest in making handmade gifts. Somehow we feel that handmade stuffs are more sincere and meaningful, and allows you to add more personal touch to it.
Last year, we folded many many colourful origami penguins for our dear friend Miss Huang’s belated birthday present. Penguin is her favourite, that’s why we chose to fold that.
It wasn’t easy though, as we had to search through the internet to look for various penguin origami techniques and decide which one looks better. And then we had to learn how to fold. (It sounds easy but it’s not! Lol.)
Next..

This is my Christmas present from Miss Tan last year. I was really really surprised and delighted to receive it. It was a really simple yet meaningful gift. There’s a letter inside too! Hehehe.
Can you tell what animals she folded?
A few weeks after that.. I folded a 3D origami flying creature for her!
It’s a New Year surprise gift. XD
The arrow thingy is actually an origami book, folded using only one piece of paper. Inside the book I wrote some messages~ Haha. And there’s also a folded letter attached to the back of this creature, it’s like a tail!
During May this year, Miss Tan and I planned a huge birthday surprise party for Mr Lai at his house, with the help of many of our friends and his family. It turned out to be a success!

Batman is Mr Lai’s favourite hero character, so a few of us hand drawn a ‘The Dark Knight’ poster for him, using our style of course. The original poster looks like this. Haha.
Some of us baked a cake for him too!

I know it doesn’t look super appetizing, but it’s really super delicious! =)
That was the first time I was involved in organising a surprise birthday party (furthermore it was really big scale!) for someone, so I was really happy that everything turned out great that day.. thanks to everyone who made it a reality.

Fast forward a few months later.. Miss Huang’s boyfriend Mr Ooi, along with Mr Lai and I prepared a surprise birthday party cum picnic cum mid-autumn festival celebration at the Chinese Gardens.
It was ultra-challenging because we guys were in army and didn’t have a lot of time to plan and get the things ready. The ladies have to work too. Most importantly, we all had to keep this surprise a secret.

We prepared sushi (learnt and made on the spot!), sandwiches, baked bread skin (created by me ^^) with chocolate/strawberry flavours, hotdog buns and fruit salad.
It turned out great too but I don’t have many pictures of the stuff we did to show you because we were too busy making them.

That’s our birthday girl and her boyfriend! =)
Recently, Miss Tan and I coincidentally made 2 different WALL·E 3D papercraft models for each other, without informing each other beforehand!
I was really amazed by this coincidence and telepathy between us. Hoho.

WALL·E shaking hand with Mini WALL·E. Very cute right?? If you want to make the one on the right yourself, here’s a link to find out. ^^
What kind of presents do you give? What’s the best present you’ve given/received so far?
