Chellas Vegetarian Corner
Looking at the menu, Miss Tan and I were really not sure how to begin ordering.

What is Sambar? What is Kuruma? What is Appalam? What is Kesari? What is Payasam? What is Pulikuzhambu (I don’t even know if I know how to pronounce this correctly when asking)? ….
I think by the time we finished asking about every single item in the menu before deciding what we wanted to order, the restaurant would have closed. Haha.
This is really the same as a non-Japanese visiting Japanese restaurant, looking at an ‘English’ menu full of ‘translations’ written to sound like Japanese. Same goes to Chinese, Korean, etc.

How is a non-Chinese educated person going to understand ‘Sin Heng Lee Hakkah Yong Tau Foo’? Lol.
Anyway, this stall’s Yong Tau Foo (I will find a suitable translation next time) is really fantastic. Will touch on this in one of my upcoming posts!
Back to Chellas.

Located at 70 Serangoon Road (in Little India), this Indian vegetarian restaurant/cafe/corner offers a wide range of dishes and set meals at pretty affordable prices. They provide nice service without service charge too!
I ordered the Bombay Meal I think? Sorry, can’t really remember already. Haha.

The serving is SUPER HUGE!!!!!!!
Below that crispy golden piece of round thing (sorry I can’t remember its name either), is a huge portion of rice. It is probably enough to feed 3 to 4 people. Surrounding it by the side are various currys and side dishes, which are supposed to be served with the rice.
Some of the curry tasted weird to me, while some were fabulous.

My favourite in this set meal is the fried cauliflowers. It tastes and feels just like fried popcorn chicken! I’m serious!
It’s super tasty and crispy. Best of all, it’s quite juicy (don’t know where the juice comes from) and a little chewy but definitely not too oily.
Love it love it love it!
Wish I can buy a packet of fried cauliflowers home.

In the end, I couldn’t finish the meal. Because it was too much for me to handle, and I wasn’t really allowed to share it too (the restaurant does not allow it).
It was a really unique and refreshing experience though, because the food they offer aren’t what I have tasted before. Unfortunately, some of the food weren’t suitable for my taste buds.
Will definitely visit this place again, and with super super empty stomach!

This is one of FAVOURITE restaurants in singapore!!!
You should try the cheese-pineapple-mushroom dosa once. It is the best ever
oh, and try the paani puri also. They are little, hollow, golden, crispy ball things which you add potato and a little spicy (and sometimes sweet) liquid to.
