Happy Rat Year!
February 7th, 2008Ah, it’s Chinese New Year again!

It’s lip-synching night again for Mediacorp celebrities, on the Chinese New Year Eve special programme. The lip-sync were so damn obvious that my family and I could not stop pointing out how unprepared the lip-synchers looked. Lol.
For the past few days (mostly nights), I’ve been busy doing last minute… not shopping, but spring cleaning for the season.
I tell you, I’m super super satisfied with spring cleaning this time! I managed to remove up to 40% of things from my bedroom, and also did a lot of reorganising of my stuff in it. This time my strategy was to clear as many unwanted things as possible, as I’m going to graduate soon and move on to army. Arhh~!

Threw a lot of my textbooks and drawings into the recycling bins above. Who knows, perhaps the toilet paper or serviette you use next time might be made from my art masterpiece. Haha.
Anyway, even though I have 3 assignment deadlines on the upcoming Monday, a project to do until I graduate and portfolio preparation for my graduation show, I am kinda excited about this Chinese New Year season!
All the angbaos, new year food, house-hopping and blockbusters… omg.. all these are really lifting my mood to celebrate! XD
Here’s wishing you guys a better rat year ahead!
Just watched 2 wonderful and unusual, non-mainstream movies recently. There are both 95% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes! (1, 2) That’s how good they are!
Away From Her

While I did not cry at all when watching this movie, I suppose many of you probably will, if you watch this movie. It’s a very sad movie, but at the same time, sweet.
This movie is all about love, pain, letting go and selflessness. Imagine, if you loved one suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, and eventually forgets you, will you still be able to love her? Worst still, you loved one falls for someone else after forgetting you.. and now you have to be the one trying hard to woo her back.
Alzheimer’s disease is one terrible and scary disease, and it shows in this movie.
It’s a must watch. Catch this movie at The Picturehouse today!

Persepolis

See that cute illustration above? That’s the animation style and colour you see in most of this movie. Yes, it’s mostly grayscale, or rather.. black and white.
Despite that, this movie feels very rich and insightful, and manages to stay visually appealing all the time with great uses of contrast, linework and textures, oh, and of course, animation.
I was fortunate enough to attend a special preview screening of this movie recently, and this movie rocks. Totally rocks.
It’s a melancholic, funny movie, thats tells the story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution. In this movie, we ‘travel’ back in time, and watch the story of her life unfold. There are issues about freedom, religion, war, love, patriotism and politics, all told in an engaging and sometimes surreal manner.
This is another must watch. Coming to theatres in Singapore on 21 Feb 2008.

Yeah, my family and I were laughing non-stop at those Mediacorp guys who were obviously lip-synching and reading from the 大字报. Haha…I pity them actually. =X
Happy CNY! =D
