‘Slow’ forward to 6 March

February 20th, 2008

My graduation show is coming. We call it ‘Fusion’. Every year, graduating students from my course display their best works in this show (more like an exhibition), invite important guests from companies relevant to this industry to have a look, and hopefully ‘catch’ us to help contribute in their companies.

Fusion 08

It will be from 6 March to 8 March at NYP Auditorium, which is in my school NYP. There will be a Career Nite & Screening of Graduation Work on 7 March in Theatre for the Arts (in my school too, haha) from 7pm to 9.30pm.

If you are free on any of those days and interested in design stuff, please come! XD Just e-mail me if you have any questions.

From now all the way until 8 March, updates in this blog will be very few or none. Because I’m so busy in school preparing stuff. T_T

——————————————————————————–

Watched quite a few movies recently.

L: changed his name

L: Changed his name to H. (saw this at Kinokuniya)

I’m not watching ‘L: Change the World’~ Heard that it’s not very good, and heard that my pocket is going to burn if I keep watching every movie that looks like it has potential. Haha.

Here’s what I’ve watched:

Juno

Juno

One of the best movies I’ve seen recently! While this movie, on the superficial level, may look like some normal teenage comedy about relationships and pregnancy, it is actually much more than that.

It gave me a very sweet feeling in my heart after watching it and put on a smile on my face too. A few young ladies sitting in front of me were ‘ooohh’-ing and ‘awwww’-ing so often during the movie, but I can understand why.

If you are going to choose just one movie to watch in February, pick this one! Too good to be missed!

CJ7

CJ7

Quite an alright family movie. It is definitely not a comedy as what the marketing people suggested. Yes, there are a few funny parts here and there, but I feel that overall the movie cannot be categorised as comedy.

I would say this is a daring and good attempt to experiment with a new genre, for Stephen Chow. However, all the visual effects and good acting can’t save the nearly empty story, unfortunately.

Kung Fu Dunk

Kung Fu Dunk

A nonsensical and lame comedy about Jay Chou playing basketball with Kung Fu moves.

A lot of visually cool parts and some funny moments. Charlene Choi is always crying in this movie, no matter what happens. Win the match she cries, lose the match she cries too. Must have used a lot of tissues.

They even tried to inject some moral message in this movie, but it felt forced.

Overall, it’s a pretty decent entertaining flick for Chinese New Year.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Sweeney Todd

A sad musical by Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. The story is extremely simple, with a nice little twist at the end.

I quite like the style, songs and gore in this movie. Definitely an unusual experience. It was my first time hearing Johnny singing, and I’m not used to it. Haha.

Happy Rat Year!

February 7th, 2008

Ah, it’s Chinese New Year again!

Lip Synching in Chinese New Year programme

It’s lip-synching night again for Mediacorp celebrities, on the Chinese New Year Eve special programme. The lip-sync were so damn obvious that my family and I could not stop pointing out how unprepared the lip-synchers looked. Lol.

For the past few days (mostly nights), I’ve been busy doing last minute… not shopping, but spring cleaning for the season.

I tell you, I’m super super satisfied with spring cleaning this time! I managed to remove up to 40% of things from my bedroom, and also did a lot of reorganising of my stuff in it. This time my strategy was to clear as many unwanted things as possible, as I’m going to graduate soon and move on to army. Arhh~!

Recycle bins! The path to new life for old stuff!

Threw a lot of my textbooks and drawings into the recycling bins above. Who knows, perhaps the toilet paper or serviette you use next time might be made from my art masterpiece. Haha.

Anyway, even though I have 3 assignment deadlines on the upcoming Monday, a project to do until I graduate and portfolio preparation for my graduation show, I am kinda excited about this Chinese New Year season!

All the angbaos, new year food, house-hopping and blockbusters… omg.. all these are really lifting my mood to celebrate! XD

Here’s wishing you guys a better rat year ahead!

Just watched 2 wonderful and unusual, non-mainstream movies recently. There are both 95% fresh at Rotten Tomatoes! (1, 2) That’s how good they are!

Away From Her

Away From Her

While I did not cry at all when watching this movie, I suppose many of you probably will, if you watch this movie. It’s a very sad movie, but at the same time, sweet.

This movie is all about love, pain, letting go and selflessness. Imagine, if you loved one suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, and eventually forgets you, will you still be able to love her? Worst still, you loved one falls for someone else after forgetting you.. and now you have to be the one trying hard to woo her back.

Alzheimer’s disease is one terrible and scary disease, and it shows in this movie.

It’s a must watch. Catch this movie at The Picturehouse today!

Persepolis

Persepolis

See that cute illustration above? That’s the animation style and colour you see in most of this movie. Yes, it’s mostly grayscale, or rather.. black and white.

Despite that, this movie feels very rich and insightful, and manages to stay visually appealing all the time with great uses of contrast, linework and textures, oh, and of course, animation.

I was fortunate enough to attend a special preview screening of this movie recently, and this movie rocks. Totally rocks.

It’s a melancholic, funny movie, thats tells the story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution. In this movie, we ‘travel’ back in time, and watch the story of her life unfold. There are issues about freedom, religion, war, love, patriotism and politics, all told in an engaging and sometimes surreal manner.

This is another must watch. Coming to theatres in Singapore on 21 Feb 2008.
