What am I doing?

October 24th, 2007

My new and last (most likely) semester of my school life has just started last Monday. I am feeling a little stressed, like finally! I’m the sort of person who rarely feels stressed, and now that I do feel it, it really means something.

What have I been doing recently? Lots of things. I always have things to do, words to say, friends to meet, places to go… all the time. Not that being occupied is a bad thing, but having a life that is so fully occupied that you almost have no time for yourself, it feels scary.

Sometimes I wonder: Why am I making myself so busy?

Storm brewing..

Now, as I take a step back and look at my life. All I can say is one word: Messy.

(It’s quite amazing that I actually have the guts to sit down and spend time to blog)

I’m totally horrible in time and money management. Now I’m trying to figure out how to leave enough air for every part of my life to breathe, so that they can survive. Gotta sort out my finances too.

What does that mean? It means while I figure out, I don’t think I will be able to come back and write lengthy posts often anymore! Haha. I guess it might be good news for some, because I have the tendency to want to write a lot and put in many pictures. Some people might not like to read wordy passages.

So, we’ll see how it goes!

Mr Woodcock

By the way, I just caught Mr Woodcock two weeks ago. Quite an alright movie, quite funny in some parts. I don’t recommend it, despite the production team’s attempt to add depth and meaning behind the story.

Saving the world is so easy

October 15th, 2007

The blog post about my birthday and many other things shall be delayed to make way for this post about the environment. Why? Because it’s Blog Action Day! XD

Well, most people on Earth must have realised that many environmental issues are not affecting us soon, but now. If we don’t do anything about them, they will only affect us and the future generations.

These issues include global warming, pollution, resource depletion, etc. (For a complete list, you can refer to wikipedia for more information.)

Ice pop melting faster than before

By fighting these issues, we are not really saving the Earth. The Earth itself will be just fine, but it’s the lives (you, me, plants and animals) that depends on it that will be affected greatly.

Let’s get started and do something now! Not tomorrow, not next month. No ‘I’m not ready yet’. Here’s 3 simple ways to make a difference and help save ourselves, which I myself have been following for some time:

  1. Use less
In every part of your life, try to make do with less. Here’s a few things that you can try:

    • Less plastic bags. When buying one item, or a few small items that you can carry without a plastic bag, avoid usage of plastic bags! Better still, bring your own bag along when doing shopping!
    • Less air-con. Whenever you turn it on, set the timer to let it shut down automatically about 1 or 2 hours later, so that you won’t forget to turn it off. Or rather, cut down your usage of it for about 10 minutes every day. This can save you a lot of money too!
    • Less water. Leave the water heater off, take shorter baths with cold water. By using cold water, it benefits your skin and your health, and you might eventually use lesser water for bathing because the water is just so cold and you can’t wait to stop using it!
    • Less light. Sleep and wake up earlier everyday, so that you can use the natural daylight more instead of your own light bulb!
    • Less unnecessary computer and TV time. Spend more time with your friends and family instead. Read a book. Play some sports. Go for a walk. It’s not very healthy to sit down and face something for too long.
  2. Recycle
Set aside a recycle bin at home to throw recyclable items inside. When outside, as much as possible, try to throw empty drink cans, plastic bottles or paper into recycle bins. Here’s a list of various places that you can find them.
  3. Stop
Here’s a few things that you can consider stopping:

    • Smoking. Man, it doesn’t only affect your health and others. Read this article to find out what else it affects. It really makes me think that all smokers are selfish. -_-
    • Using disposable products. Use your own one instead. Disposable cutleries will only contribute to the increasing amount of non-biodegradable waste every day. When organising parties or bbq, encourage people to bring their own plates and mugs.
    • Eating fast food. They are not only unhealthy, but their packaging alone are also great contributors to the waste, as mentioned above.

No more ice in iced water

So, what have you done recently to help ’save the planet’?
