Rain rain go away

August 2nd, 2007

Raindrops keep falling on my head~. It has been raining in Singapore very often over the past few weeks. Ar! I miss the sun!

A few hours ago, some bird droppings fell on my head too. -.-…. So unfortunate!!!!!

Smoking Comic Strip

I wonder why many people usually like to smoke during wet weather. =/

Anyway, if you have noticed the yellow skin, it’s because this comic strip is done with a little touch of The Simpsons!

The Simpsons Movie: Almost 1laugh/min.

The Simpsons Movie

I haven’t watched a single episode of The Simpsons TV series, but all I can say about this movie is, it’s very funny and is very ‘Simpsons’. It’s full of ridiculously lame but hilarious jokes and sight gags.

If you are looking for 90 minutes of good laugh, this is highly recommended!

Knocked Up: Simply Down-to-earth

Knocked Up

Here’s an M18 romance comedy about a man that made a lady pregnant. The problem is, they are from totally different worlds, and none of them would have dreamt of liking each other in the first place. That’s the interesting part, because in this movie we get to see how they try to cope with their differences and actually learn how to love each other.

The story is straightforward, and delivers a lot of embarrassing but very believable humour that many people/couples can relate to.

It’s more like a documentary of the relationship between the man and the lady, as well as the people around them. The filmmakers managed to handle this movie so well that sometimes you feel you really know the characters very well, and you can almost feel what they feel.

A pretty decent heartwarming movie that I think most guys and girls will like. Crude humour for the guys + romantic story for the girls = Win-win situation.

Gone Shopping: I would rather Go Shopping =(

Gone Shopping

After reading the synopsis, I thought this could be quite a good Singaporean movie. It feels like those kind of movies that will make you think, or even influence your mindset a little. Furthermore, our nation’s favourite hobby is shopping, so I believed the filmmakers would do their best to make a very good movie based on this nationwide favourite pastime.

So here’s the long synopsis. If you don’t want to read you can skip it.

*Synopsis*

It’s basically a character study about 3 individuals who escape to the shopping centers in search of a better life.

Leading the repertoire is a tragically romantic 40-year-old tai tai who desperately wants to be loved, followed by a feisty 8-year-old girl who desperately wants independence and finally an angst ridden 22-year-old ‘Gen-Y’ boy who desperately wants to find his manhood. This motley crew lead audiences through a journey of love, loss and lunacy in the heart of Singapore where they find that their dreams can be bought and broken. (synopsis taken from the official website =p)

*End of synopsis*

I guess this show is those love-it or hate-it type. Unfortunately, I’m more slanted towards the hate-it type.

Things I liked about this movie are:

  • Superb acting. I really think that all the actors’ and actresses’ performance are very impressive and powerful.
  • Good editing.
  • You sometimes really feel what the characters are feeling, and the emotions they are going through. I think that’s very important for audience
  • Fantastic cinematography.

Thing that I didn’t like:

  • Lack of explanation. This movie requires some interpretation and thinking. I think I’m weak in that. Thanks to this, I find the whole movie pretty unsatisfying because I don’t understand it fully. There are still many questions in my mind that are unanswered. Perhaps it’s meant to be unanswered, or my brain just couldn’t catch anything. I walked out of the theatre still thinking, ‘huh? that’s all?’
  • The ending. I really didn’t want the credits to roll out so soon. T_T

No amount of things I like could make up for the unsatisfying story and ending. All the while I felt that this movie is trying to say something, but I just couldn’t catch it fully.

I am looking forward to watching ‘The Simpsons’. Schoolwork is keeping me locked on my desk and not in the theatre.

The comic that you drew sort of reminds me of that ad on the internet about a gum that keeps people from smoking, and there is a guy who goes outside the office in a gail of a rain and tries to light up. =P
