Good Ramen, Good Anime

Marutama Ramen logo

Looks like a basketball with a mole right?

It’s the logo of the Marutama Ramen shop, which is located at level 3 in The Central. Their ramen is so freaking good that I’m going to praise them like mad in the next few paragraphs. Lol.

Interior of the ramen shop

But be warned: If you are very hungry and hate to queue during dinner peak hours, then I think you better not dine there during this period. This restaurant is quite small, and their interior looks like those authentic ramen restaurant that can be found in Japan.

I went to this place with my friends quite some time ago and ended up queueing for almost an hour. -.- Fortunately, the wait was worth it!

Despite being busy and having so many customers, their food was served quickly.

A bowl of Chicken Cha Shu Ramen

This is the Chicken Cha Shu Ramen ($13) I had, if I didn’t remember wrongly. The chicken soup base was clear, not too oily nor salty and simply tasty! The very big spoon was useful in this case. =)

The cha shu was tender, and it simply melts when you put it into your mouth.

The noodles had this very bouncy and Q feel to it, which made the whole slurping and chewing experience so enjoyable!

You also have the option to top up your noodles at just $1. Initially I read the menu wrongly and thought that we could top up the soup at $1, so I finished 90% of the soup. -.- But I still requested for top up of noodles (it was allowed thanks to the 10% of soup left) anyway, and managed to obtain more soup from my friends, haha.

Conclusion: This ramen is not to be missed! Probably the best I’ve had in Singapore.

The Girl Who Leapt Through TimeThe Girl Who Leapt Through Time

Prior to watching this movie, all I knew about this movie was: It’s about a girl who can leap through time (as the title suggested). Little did I know this anime movie can contain such a mature plot and entertaining viewing experience. It managed to combine romance, action, comedy, drama and science fiction so well that I forgot I was actually watching an animation.

This movie is a complete breath of fresh air to me, after watching so many Desmond-rated-6.5-star blockbuster movies during this summer season. I can confidently say that this movie is the best I have seen this summer, and one of the best this year.

Sure, this movie has some minor flaws. Movies that deal with time travelling will inevitably have time travel paradoxes, including this one. However, it really doesn’t matter, because that won’t stop you from enjoying the show.

Normally, touching on time travel subject matter can become a confusing and probably tough experience for the audience. Furthermore, this movie even contains some subplots here and there. I’m amazed that the filmmakers actually handled all these challenges very well, with skillful storytelling.

For first few minutes, I found it quite a hassle to actually read the subtitles and look at the animation that the same time. After awhile, before I know it, I was sucked into the story and brought into the beautiful world shown in the movie. You get to see blue skies (like the one above) and sunsets in the movie a lot, haha.

I thought that the music and songs in this movie are very well done. One of the songs actually made me feel like crying a little.

Words that sum up this Japanese animated masterpiece: Beautiful. Inspiring. Touching. Classic. Hilarious. (B.I.T.C.H.)

Three more words: Go watch it.

9/10
