Not even one cup?
May 7th, 2007While I was working on last Saturday, a lady came to me and asked if she could redeem a free cup of coffee.
I thought to myself, “Oh.. another typical Singaporean customer who wants to redeem her free coffee with some credit card privilege.”
She supported this redemption thing by showing me a letter sent to her from the company I work for. It stated that she was entitled to receive a free coffee, because of her helpful comment and suggestion to help the company improve, before 31 August 2006.
“Before 31 August 2006″, and she still got the cheek to come and collect ah??
I pointed to that date and reminded her that she could no longer redeem it because.. the reason is obvious!
She knew she was late too. But she didn’t give up, and explained that she only discovered this letter recently. Psst… she looked like she was almost dying to get the coffee, haha.
Personally, I didn’t mind giving her that cup of regular coffee. Because that was supposed to be a gift from the company, a sincere and timeless one. Furthermore, how much could the company lose just by giving away a cup of coffee?
Since I wasn’t the person who makes coffee, nor the person in charge of the cafe, I referred to my manager and asked about this.
After negotiating with my manager on the lady’s behalf, my manager insisted on only one thing: That ‘gift’ is expired. Period. And also, it’s just a cup of coffee, why insist in getting it for free instead of buying it? It’s just $4.90 per cup.
In the end, she didn’t get the coffee. She walked away with a disappointed look, and told me she would give my company a call to talk about this.
Come to think of it, if she was sincere in helping the company improve, why should she be so concerned about the reward (which in this case, is a free cup of coffee)? I bet she didn’t expect anything in return when she gave that ‘helpful’ comment.
Put yourself in their shoes (the company/manager and the lady), do you think she should still get her free coffee?
Spider-Man 3
I believe most of you must have watched this highly anticipated movie of this summer, Spider-Man 3.
I have had high expectations for this movie, because the first two Spider-Man movies simply blew me away. I loved the previous movies so much I watched them more than once in cinemas. I thought that with Venom and Sandman this time, this movie would be potentially the greatest Spider-Man movie ever.
The third movie of this series disappointed me, despite the spectacular action sequences, visual effects and great humour.
I guess director Sam Raimi probably tried to put too much into this movie, by adding in new villains and characters, while trying to show us Peter’s inner battles as well as his relationship with Mary. In this case, more is less.
All in all, it’s pretty good entertainment, but lacks a solid story and sufficient character development. Venom’s screentime was so little! =x

if I were the manager I’d just give her the freaking cup of coffee! How much could the basic cost of a little grounded coffee with some hot water be? =D Actually if i were making the drinks I’d just give it to her. lol. Esp since your company has so many branches all over sg already. must be earning lots of $$$ =x

If I’m the manager, and she still insisted that she wants the cup of coffee, perhaps I’ll just give in, but giving her another coffee which costs cheaper! xD
