Be young!

March 28th, 2007

My friends and I had lunch with my lecturer (the one who woke me up) today. We had a wonderful conversation which touched on topics about life, beliefs, school, movies…… and BLOG.

Lecturer: I wrote them down in my blog the other day.
Me: *big eyes* Wa?? You have a blog?!
Lecturer: T_T Wei… Lecturer cannot have blog meh?

I was quite surprised to hear that he has a blog. I wouldn’t expect him to have the time and energy to blog, nor expect him to be really so ‘hip’! (He isn’t very young)

Some of you who have watched Jack Neo’s Just Follow Law might remember that there’s this senior citizen in the movie who has a blog called laozhabor. At first I thought it was a joke and didn’t believe it, until I typed the address.. and boom! Here it is.

Lao Zha Bor

She is really one cool granny! Her blog posts are funny and interesting. She also uploads some videos on Youtube and post them on her blog.

Some words of wisdom from one of her posts:

I thought the only way to stay young, is to be young. Forget all the wrinkle cream and plastic surgery! Feel young, live young is the only solution to be young!

How true! Auntie, I salute you!

Some of the movies that I’ve watched recently.

Mr Bean’s Holiday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Mr Bean’s Holiday is, in my opinion, a high quality comedy made with very good effort. I’m not just referring to the funny parts, but also the story, direction and editing. If you like Mr Bean’s brand of humour, you will love this last story about him. 8 / 10

Oh, TMNT, I didn’t quite enjoy watching it. Perhaps I was tired and having a headache. Instead of enjoying the movie, I actually spent some time to analyse certain scenes and thinking how they were made and why they were made that way. -.- Overall, this is a real fast paced, action-packed and high quality animation with a lame story that contains a good message. (That’s a pretty long sentence by the way) 6 / 10

The Pursuit of Happyness

One of the better movies I’ve seen this year, The Pursuit of Happyness tells a story about a man who fights very hard for his dream despite almost everything working against him. This movie is truly an inspiration for all of us. It made me understand better how fortunate I am and want to be a better person. Highly recommended! 9 / 10

Dying to live

March 22nd, 2007

Ever wondered how it is like to die as a cockroach, sometimes?

Killing you

Ok, crap. Took this photo during my FYP today, when my team was trying out some very weird stuff. Lol.

Movie Reviews

Seducing Mr Perfect

I watched Seducing Mr Perfect some time ago. It’s a pretty light hearted Korean comedy about romance. This movie didn’t turn out to be as funny as I thought, and the shallow storyline doesn’t help much to make it more enjoyable. Most of the funny parts actually come from the lead actress, while the lead actor delivers his lines in very good English and shows off his handsome face.

I still prefer The Art of Seduction, which is way funnier than this.

6 / 10.

Letters from Iwo Jima 300

Letters from Iwo Jima and 300 are both war movies, with stories focusing on the outnumbered armies.

In Letters from Iwo Jima, the Japanese military forces are seriously insufficient on the island Iwo Jima. The Americans, with massive amount of manpower, came to attack, and managed to defeat the Japanese. Overall, I think the direction, soundtrack, acting and story of this movie are superb. Despite some of my friends saying that this movie is boring, I personally feel that this movie has a very good message behind it and is definitely worth watching. Even though the pacing may be quite slow sometimes, at least it allows me to truly feel how some of the Japanese soldiers felt during the war. 8.5 / 10.

In 300, three hundred strong and skillful Spartans go to war against thousands of Persians. If you are really looking for great story, by all means, stay away from this movie. This movie is all about war, fighting, violence and blood. It’s a very very ‘man’ movie. The fighting sequences are very cool to look at, with all the slow motions. The scenery in this movie, and the colour treatment is totally brilliant. It’s really like seeing a series of polished artworks. I also like the breathtaking details of their skin and everything else visible in this movie, it’s really a great feast for the eyes. 8.5 / 10.

Woo.. so many movies coming up!!! XD

Here’s my new layout by the way. Personally, I like it a lot, because it’s super orangish! I hope you like it too!
