Food day!
[EDIT] I replied to almost every single recent comment! [/EDIT]
Many people who have seen me in real life almost never fail to tell me this:
“Desmond! Eat more! You are so skinny! How I wish I can cut some fats off my body to give you..”
Please. Action speaks louder than words. If you really want me to eat more, please bring some food along when you say that. Better still, bring some money along..

“Desmond! Eat more! Here, take my money/food.”
And that’s enough. Haha.

食字路口

Last Sunday, I went to play 食字路口 with my friends. In case you don’t know what this game is about, it’s a game where you are given the name of a food. Different participating teams must locate the food and finish it. After that, they will use the last word of that food item to form a new one, eventually creating a chain of food items linked together by their respective last words/sounds. The objective of the game is to link the names that can connect to the last food (which is given by game master at the later part of the game).
Understand? No? Forget it. Lol.
Anyway, here’s what my team came up with:
(Food highlighted in sunshine yellow are those given by the game masters)

Imagine drinking 鸳鸯 (Coffee+Tea), Starfruit Juice, Tiger Beer, Yakult and Coca Cola, all within a few hours. Sounds weird? Now, imagine how the urine will smell. =p
Here’s my team, ‘Huat Ah’!

Our group cheer is very simple. It’s just ‘Huat ah, huat ah, huat ah… Chiiooonngg ah!’
And very fortunately, my team managed to ‘chiiooonngg’ and won the top prize! Woo~!

We won a movie voucher each. =)

Ice Monster Desserts

If you noticed, our last food item was Ice Monster’s Mango Ice. We didn’t really enjoy eating the dessert at that time, as we had to hurry to the final destination for the game.
After the game, we headed back to this shop so that we could sit down and enjoy slowly!
Ice Monster is from Taiwan, and I heard it’s pretty famous there too. And they have this cute little yellowish mascot that looks strangely familiar.

Coincidence or not? You be the judge. Lol.
I have heard about Ice Monster some time ago, but wasn’t interested to try, since I’m not a huge fan of ‘ice’ desserts.
After the first try, I think it’s not bad. My decision to savour my dessert slowly was a bad one, because the ice melted too quickly. -.- Must be global warming!

The price range of their desserts is around $5 to $8. Correct me if I’m wrong.
They come in many different flavours for you to choose from. Kiwi, strawberry, mango, durian (seasonal), etc. You can mix flavours too.
I think their desserts are perfect for the kind of crazy hot weather we have recently.

One thing that I need to mention is, their staff at Bugis are super duper responsive and sensitive! They keep thinking that you want to make an order, even when you don’t want to!
If you look at their direction, they will come to you. If your arms move a lot, they will come to you. If you stop talking, they think you are waiting for them to come. -.-
All these happen when they are not busy.
It was pretty funny because they kept coming, and we kept telling them to wait. It’s like a video tape that loops non-stop.
Ma Maison

On Sunday night, my friends and I had dinner at Ma Maison Restaurant, which sells Japanese Western Cuisine. Ma Maison means ‘My Home’ in French. It’s from Nagoya, Japan, according to their staff.
As we stepped into the restaurant, what captured my attention was their very unique, cosy and old English country ambience. It feels extremely comfortable, just like home.
Their Japanese staff that greeted us was super friendly too! You can feel that she’s really treating you like a guest with utmost welcome.

As the place was kind of dim, so I couldn’t take very nice pictures. But one thing for sure, it’s a perfect place for date nights!
In the restaurant, you have a choice to sit at the bar counter (less popular choice) or at their dining tables. I thought sitting at dining table would be more comfortable, so we waited for about 25 minutes to be seated.
That night was the first time I tried escargot. In my life, I have accidentally murdered so many snails, and now I finally have the chance to put them into my mouth!
Here’s Escargots Baked with Garlic Butter.

6 escargots for $9.50. Hmm. Escargots very hard to catch is it? Lol.
I’m not a person who is into ’shell food’. Oysters and clam are not my favourite. But I must admit that Ma Maison’s escargots are very tasty!
The flesh is very chewy, and is immersed in fragrant garlic butter. I heard they are high in protein too!

I’m starting to love (eating) escargots! XD
Here’s Beef Stroganoff with Omelette Rice. The sauce is absolutely yummy. Not too thick nor too watery.

Next, if I never remember wrongly, came Hayashi Rice.
I’m not sure whether the sauce was really Japanese curry, but it tastes damn good.

The sauce is so good that I kept scooping it up to taste. And this dish wasn’t what I ordered, it was my friend’s. Haha.
Hayashi rice is a popular dish in Japanese ‘family’ restaurants, and is also one of Japan’s most popular western dishes. Must try!
I ordered Italian Hamburger Steak (180g). ($16.90, for your info)

The steak is a mix of minced beef and pork, served with this brown sauce that took them a month to prepare! The yellow substance on top is cheese.
I like it a lot. The meat is tender, and the overall taste is perfect. However, I believe you can order something similar at Botak Jones at half the price but probably double the portion. Haha.
This little amount of meat was not enough to fill my stomach. The taste itself, however, won my heart.
I’ll definitely visit this restaurant again, when I have more money. Since the restaurant is quite small, I don’t think it’s suitable for big groups. Maybe you can just ask a friend or two, and you are ready to enjoy the whole dining experience with comfort. =)

Hey, how did you get to know the game from? Cool :D.
Desmond: If you watch 吴宗宪’s 周日八点党, you will be familiar with this game. Our game idea was borrowed from that show. The show is fun to watch, the game is fun to play! You can organised a mini 食字路口 with your friends someday, if you like. =p

That time when watching the 食字路口, I actually imagined how nice it would be if we could play it. Haha! You guys actually did it. Cool.
And the pictures of food on your blog is making me drool. >_> I’ve visited Ma Maison for thrice. Their food very nice! Just that they took very long to prepare, so go half an hour before hand if you know you’re gonna be hungry. XD XD And the helllllllllllll…. the melted cheese on the steak. *dies*
I ordered assorted sausages and some garlic chicken thingy. Nice. @o@ I’ve tried my friend’s Omu rice also. Hahaha. NICE. :X

The beef stroganoff with omelet rice looks so freaking delicious! When I was working on the design blog, I would be blog surfing simultaneously and I would come back to your blog to read your awesome food reviews and look at that picture! Seriously, as I type this my saliva is building up! Haha! I should check out that place some time! Thanks for the recommendation.
Usually I would leave a reply on my own weblog, but I had to let you know that I initially saw what you meant about the maintenance of a design blog. When I was working through the structure and the layout, it slowly dawned on me on how large the project will be. I just hope that it’ll have a long life on the internet! =)
Desmond: All the best for your design blog! I believe yours will sort of motivate me to spend more time to maintain mine! =)
