Fated to be late

(This is going to be quite a long entry, estimated reading time is 4 Min.)

Many of my friends know that I had this bad habit of arriving late for lessons. Recently, I’m trying really hard to fix this habit.

On Tuesday morning, I woke up exceptionally early for my 8am class despite sleeping for just 1.5 hours. I had a great Mum’s Big Breakfast™ to celebrate my early-ness for class on that day.

Even ‘god’ was so happy for me that he painted the cloudless sky beautifully blue. Even the sunlight felt warmer that day.

Blue Sky

I listened to my MP3 player and hopped walked happily to the MRT station near my home.

When I reached the station, the 2 estimated arrival times for the train towards Marina Bay looked like this:

[7 Min Do Not Board][7 Min Marina Bay]

Wow, two trains arriving at the same time!

Then I saw quite a great number of people crowding around the MRT control station, with policemen around too. Didn’t bother to find out why.

I grabbed a free copy of MyPaper and entered the MRT platform.

After I finished reading MyPaper and listened to about 4 songs, the estimated arrival time of the train was still 7 Min. Something was not right.

I began to see people walking out of the station furiously, while the station got more and more crowded.

Someone tapped my shoulder, and it was my classmate. I took off my earphones, and learnt from her that the train was going to be delayed for 40 minutes. 40!!! It was already 7.50am at that time.

I knew my carefully executed plan to reach school early failed.

And I suspected only three situations were possible:

  1. Someone jumped down onto the MRT track and got knocked down by the MRT.
  2. The MRT broke down.
  3. Someone jumped down onto the MRT track and got knocked down by the MRT before the MRT broke down.

Anyway, we then decided to take a cab to school. But before that, she wanted to meet up with her boyfriend at Yishun first.

Since the taxi stand was quite full, we took the bus 852 to Yishun bus interchange instead as there were much fewer people taking buses.

I didn’t have any cash left in my EZlink card (I only bought MRT concession) and had to use coins, so I asked the bus driver..

I ask bus driver

Driver reply

So it was a free bus trip for me.

After we met her boyfriend in Yishun bus interchange, the 3 of us decided to take 852 to school (at Yio Chu Kang) since there were very few people queuing for it.

The number of people queuing for the free MRT shuttle service was so long that by the time it was our turn, our lesson would be over already.

We entered the bus after the bus driver went in.

Again, I only had coins to pay for my trip. So I asked the bus driver (who looked strangely familiar)..

I ask bus driver

Driver reply

Yay.. another free bus trip. And it was the same bus driver.. Lol.

Bus Stop

Look at the insane amount of people waiting for bus! (The reflection in the glass is actually my Japanese tutorial book. Yup I was trying to make good use of the time to study! I’m very hardworking one.. )

The bus was pretty slow, due to the traffic jam. It was so slow that I even managed to snap a few pictures which I normally wouldn’t be able to.

Here’s one of them:

Singapore, a green country

Singapore, a green country.

And there was a pretty good looking lady sitting beside me too. Thank ‘god’ for the traffic jam!

When I reached school, it was already 9.05am. This is the first time I spent 1 hour to travel to school from Khatib to Yio Chu Kang (only 5 minutes apart).

And yea, what happened in Yishun was indeed a suicide, if not, accident of a man.

Thanks to this man, thousands of people were affected. Thanks to this man, I was late again.

It’s so sad to see people jumping onto the MRT tracks to end their precious lives, but I think they’re so selfish to delay other passengers’ time (wah…it rhymes!).

Anyway, you’re fortunate to get 2 free bus trips… =D

Yeah, I wonder why these suicidal people choose peak hour to die.

But good excuse to be late lah :x

Free rides…. I was given a free one by the bus driver before too, but he said it in a rude way o_O And that stupid guy is so silly to jump into the tracks. Cannot think of other way to commit suicide meh -_-

Seems like you’re destined to be late for lessons ;)

For me, I’ll be early as long as its school activity cause my school moved to Buona Vista and I live in pasir ris so I have to go extra extra early and I’ll be early yay! Must learn from me! Haha :)

    Hilarious trip.

But it’s annoying how everyone’s jumping onto tracks as a form of suicide. Can’t Singaporeans get any more creative? Sheesh.
